Welcome to my personal piece of web real estate!

I am Dean Michael Berris, a C++ enthusiast, blogger (author of the C++ Soup), and software engineer. At any given time, I am usually all of the three combined.

I have been programming since the age of 11 having been blessed to be able to get my hands on a personal computer at home. In school I first was able to program using Turbo Pascal then. When I was in high school I learned to program in Java through a book and later C++ from another book.

Throughout college in the University of the Philippines Los Banos, I had been fascinated by problem solving through computers as a Computer Science undergraduate. I haven't finished my studies yet, but I have been working my way through the IT industry in the Philippines. I'm a wide reader and an enthusiastic writer who's not afraid to share what I think about the world and the IT industry in general.

At one time I was a software engineer for one of the largest social networking sites in the world. I used to be a consultant and a software architect focusing on agile software engineering practices and systems development using C++. I'm an open source software evangelist and developer releasing and maintaining quite a number of C++ libraries. Currently I am a Systems Architect for one of the subsidiaries of the largest telecommunications company in the Philippines.

I am a Christian and a Filipino -- and I am proud to be both at the same time.

I am interested in anything technology especially those which relate to software engineering and computing in general. I swim for exercise, cook for pleasure, and write for a hobby.
