My Passion and Dream Profession

In less than a month my full-time consulting engagement will come to an end. This is by my choice and I have my reasons for choosing to do so but I won't talk about that now. What I will talk about is what my passions and dream profession by choice is like. I cannot pinpoint exactly what that dream profession is, but I would try to describe it. Optimizing My Workflow

So this past week I've been trying to improve my workflow as I prepare to limit the amount of time I spend working or being in "work mode". One of the reasons I am trying to do this is to that I can make time for my family that is about to be one member larger pretty soon. The prospect of not having time for my family is not a good prospect for me so I tried out some simple rules I impose on myself when I'm at work. 1 AM Encounters

There's been a lot going on lately and I've been doing quite a number of 1 AM activities with the current engagement. This isn't turning out to be one of the better things with my current project, but because we have a great team and I love them to bits, it's just one of those things I've been looking to deal with. I really wish these 1 AM Encounters will stop sooner than later.

Amazon MapReduce, Cloud Computing, and Why It Matters

And so I thought it was just a matter of time. I'd say Amazon is definitely making the right moves in making parallel computing and cloud computing fit in a nicely integrated package. Just today I found out that Amazon has now released in public beta the Amazon Elastic MapReduce offering. This means if your organization has needs to do massively parallel data-intensive computing, this is one of the more attractive offerings that your CIO/CTO should look into.
